Moldex Ltd/Moldex Injection Plastics Ltd: Moldex

Produced by Moldex  Company in Hawthorn, Victoria, from 1945. The firm was purchased in 1947 by Moldex Ltd.

There was an unsuccessful partnership with Pierwood from 1953-54, when the company was renamed as Moldex Injection Plastics Pty Ltd. Moldex bought out the 50% interest from Pierwood on 1st July 1954, becoming Moldex Injection Plastics Ltd. They produced toys such as Scalextric and Triang train sets under license for the local market. Acquired by Lines Bros (UK) around 1956, in 1970, they were still manufacturing under the name Triang Moldex.

“Round waiters” (i.e. trays in mottled red, green and brown), ‘Dextiles’ (plastic bathroom tiles), knitting boxes, plastic craft string, garden hose, rocking horse, toys, ramikins, cake canisters.

Toys

This 3 inch piggy bank by Moldex is slightly ugly, and of questionable design. The neck of the pig is too narrow for any coin to pass through, so only a few could lodge in the head. The pig would have to be destroyed to retrieve them.
